Signs of a duct problem

  • Some rooms are much warmer than others even though the AC runs constantly.
  • Weak airflow at the vents while the blower sounds normal.
  • Humid or musty air indoors, or condensation on ducts and registers.
  • Dust blowing from the vents or collecting quickly on furniture.
  • Higher power bills with no change in how you use the AC.
  • Visible damage in an attic or air handler closet: disconnected, crushed or torn duct sections, or insulation that has come off.

Duct repair and sealing

Leaks and disconnected sections

Cooled air escaping into an attic or wall cavity never reaches the room. Seams, joints and connections at the air handler and boots are common leak points.

Crushed or kinked flex duct

Flexible duct can be pinched during other work or sag over time, which cuts airflow to that room.

Missing or damaged insulation

In a hot attic, uninsulated or wet duct insulation lets cooled air warm up on the way and can cause sweating.

Poorly designed runs

Undersized returns or long, restrictive runs, often from past additions, can starve a system of air even when the equipment is fine.

Duct cleaning: when it makes sense

Duct cleaning isn't something every home needs on a schedule. It can make sense after construction or renovation, after water or mold in the duct system, when there is visible debris or pest activity, or when ducts are heavily contaminated. Routine dust is often better handled with regular filter changes and a clean air handler. We'll tell you what we see before recommending cleaning, and we'll say so if repair or sealing is the better first step.

Mold concerns? If you see suspected mold on or around ducts or registers, say so when you call. Moisture has to be found and fixed first, or the problem returns.

Why ducts matter in Miami

Miami attics get extremely hot, and a lot of ductwork runs through them. Leaky or poorly insulated ducts lose cooling there, and humid air can be pulled into return leaks, which adds moisture to the home. Older concrete-block homes often have ducts that were modified or added to over the years. This is also where proper system sizing and replacement planning come in: new equipment on bad ducts won't perform as it should.

How a duct inspection works

  1. You describe the symptoms. Which rooms, what time of day, and what you've noticed.
  2. Visual inspection. Accessible ducts, registers, returns, the air handler and insulation are checked.
  3. Airflow checks. We compare airflow and temperature at the vents with what the system should deliver.
  4. Findings and options. You hear what's wrong and whether sealing, repair, cleaning or replacement of sections makes sense. If the problem turns out to be the equipment, we'll point you to AC repair.

Questions about duct repair & cleaning

How do I know if my ducts are leaking?

Warning signs include rooms that never cool, weak airflow, dust from vents, and visible gaps or disconnections in the attic or at the air handler. A proper inspection confirms it.

Do I need duct cleaning every year?

Not usually. It tends to be worthwhile after renovation, water or mold issues, or visible contamination. Regular filter changes and maintenance cover routine dust.

Can duct problems raise my power bill?

They can. If cooled air leaks out before reaching the rooms, the system runs longer to reach the thermostat setting.

Will new AC equipment fix airflow problems?

Not always. If the ducts are leaking, undersized or damaged, a new unit can inherit the same problems. That's why we look at ducts before a replacement.

Do you work in condos?

Many condos have little exposed ductwork, and building rules apply. Tell us your building and unit and we'll say what's possible.
