AC Replacement in Miami, FL
Replacing an air conditioner is a big decision. We'll help you work out whether repair still makes sense and, if not, what the replacement involves.

Signs it may be time to replace
- Repeated breakdowns. If you're paying for repairs season after season, the total can approach the cost of a new system.
- An expensive part has failed. A compressor or coil replacement on an older unit is often where owners start to compare options.
- Poor cooling even when the system is running. Rooms stay warm, humidity stays high, and the system never seems to catch up.
- Rising power bills. Older, worn equipment often loses efficiency.
- Old refrigerant type. Older systems use refrigerants that are being phased out, which can make repairs involving refrigerant harder and more costly.
- Corrosion. Salt air and humidity can eat away at outdoor coils and cabinets, especially near the water.
Repair vs. replace: what we look at
Instead of a blanket rule, we look at the system's age and condition, the cost of the repair in front of you, how often it has failed, whether the ducts and electrical are in good shape, and what kind of equipment fits your space and budget. If a repair is the better value, we'll say so. See AC repair for the options there.
What replacement involves
- Assessment. We review the existing equipment, ducts, drain, electrical and thermostat.
- Equipment options. Systems are matched to the space. New residential equipment is built to current federal efficiency standards and newer refrigerants.
- Permit and approvals. Replacement generally needs a permit in Miami-Dade, and condos may need building approval first.
- Removal and install. The old equipment is removed and the new system installed, connected and tested.
- Start-up check. Airflow, cooling performance, drainage and thermostat settings are checked before we leave.
Things worth asking any AC contractor
- What is the Florida license number, and can I verify it?
- Is the permit included in the quote?
- What is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, and what by the installer's labor warranty?
- Will the ductwork be inspected, and will any repairs be needed?

Questions about ac replacement
How long does an AC last in Miami?
Lifespan varies with the equipment, installation quality and maintenance. Constant use, humidity and salt air can shorten it compared with milder climates.
Should I replace the whole system or just the outdoor unit?
Often the indoor and outdoor components are matched, and mixing old and new can reduce performance. We'll explain the options for your equipment.
How long does a replacement take?
Many residential replacements can be done in about a day, but ductwork changes, permits or building approvals can extend the timeline.
Can I get a quote without a visit?
Photos and basic details can give a rough idea, but a firm quote normally requires seeing the space and the existing equipment.
